Kenya Airways suspends flights to Liberia, Sierra Leone

National carrier Kenya Airways will suspend flights to Sierra Leone and Liberia effective Tuesday midnight to avert possible spread of the Ebola virus to Kenya.
The local airline joins a number of airlines worldwide which have suspended their flying to countries hit by Ebola.
The government and Kenya Airways reached the decision to suspend flights to the two West African countries following pressure from a section of Kenyan leaders as well as the World Health Organization categorization of Kenya as a high risk area for Ebola outbreak.
Health Cabinet Secretary, James Macharia, while announcing the move, said the measure is aimed at limiting travelers from Ebola affected countries, but will not affect Kenyans returning home.
He said that Kenyans returning home will be screened at the entry point and quarantined if need be.
Ebola was first reported in Guinea on March 24th and has killed at least 1,200 people across West Africa this year, with more than 2,000 cases reported.
